Why Boehly gives Chelsea a significant advantage in January to sign Ronaldo
Todd Boehly, who shares co-control of Chelsea, might be willing to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in January.
In the summer, Boehly was interested in signing the 37-year-old from Manchester United but was rebuffed by Thomas Tuchel, the then-manager of the Blues. Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes and Boehly have developed a close friendship.
In January, though, as Manchester United looks to unload the Portuguese, the American billionaire plans to revisit his interest in Ronaldo.
It is unknown whether Graham Potter, who would succeed Tuchel, would be willing to sign Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was barred from playing for United's first team by manager Erik ten Hag after the forward stormed out of Old Trafford before the final whistle and resisted being subsSince the summer, Ronaldo has been a transfer target, but no major teams have expressed interest in the former Real Madrid player. Ronaldo, meanwhile, appears poised for an Old Trafford exit by January in some capacity, with Ten Hag's team thriving in his absence off the field.
Late in the game, with his team leading Tottenham 2-0, the 37-year-old declined to enter the game.
In his absence, United turned in one of their greatest performances of the season in a 2-0 triumph over Spurs. On Saturday, they traveled to Chelsea and drew 1-1.
Ronaldo was not included in Ten Hag's team, and while the performance wasn't as strong as the display pCasemiro's header in stoppage time gave United a point for their efforts.
This season, Ronaldo has typically started United's Europa League games, so it will be interesting to see if Ten Hag brings the seasoned player back for the team's home match against Sheriff on Thursday.ut intituted.
